november clips

apologies for the quiet month!

Welcome to clipboard, a semi-regular-but-at-least-monthly newsletter about good shit and Tāmaki Makaurau by me, Reilly Hodson. This issue, I’m sharing the clips on my board from November. I promise this newsletter will have more than one issue between now and Christmas.

how about that weather?

I apologise that I haven’t written a single newsletter this month - I’ve been struggling with lethargy and motivation all month, so haven’t really had much of interest to say. Honestly, the thing I’ve been thinking about the most is how jarring it is to begin to feel the increased volatility of the weather that is probably going to become our reality. If only all of our lawmakers around the world also got taught climate change as fact in year 4 like people our age…

It’s easy to feel hopeless as we watch prices increase and the planet get warmer, and I don’t have an easy answer for you about how to resolve that feeling. Anyway, here are some links!

  • My wonderful partner Liv spoke to Zoe Walker-Ahwa at Ensemble Magazine about her complicated relationship with her hair. It’s an incredible read, and I’m not just saying that because Liv is watching me write this.

  • Shopping is not the solution to a bad feeling, but I did buy this top from Checks Downtown that makes me feel like a 6 year old heading off to my first disco again, so that’s something.

  • I took a pair of shoes to get resoled at the shoe repair place on Karangahape Road, and would absolutely recommend it! Reuse rather than consumption and disposal is a great thing, so take care of your clothes

  • I loved Chris and Eli’s Porn Revolution, a funny and revealing video series about our relationship with pornography. Excellent stuff.

  • Buddy, the team behind one of my favourite t-shirts, teamed up with Collective Canvas on some very sick sneakers made with hemp. Limited run, so get in on it quickly.

  • Porter James Sports has nailed the cropped-body, longer-arm silhouette that the cool guys on TikTok and Instagram favour to pair with their baggy pants and Birkenstock Bostons, and its new range is filled with great pieces at a very reasonable price point. I particularly like the flannels and this light knit.

  • We’ve been watching Industry on Neon, and although it is often an uncomfortable watch, it’s also the show I find myself attempting to drop into conversation the most often

  • I’m going to do a clipboard gift guide next week, so send me requests for giftees that you need suggestions for!

That’s all for clipboard this time, see you soon! I’ll be back hopefully next week with the clipboard gift guide. In the meantime, you can get in touch with me on Instagram, via email or in the chat section on the Substack app (which I’ve been really enjoying using). See ya!
