I’m going to level with you: this has been a week for me. I’ve been teetering on the edge of professional burnout owing to a barrage of work, a pandemic and any number of things. That means that, as I sit down to write this newsletter, I have very little mental capacity to share anything original. Instead, I thought I would share a bunch of great stuff from around the place, before returning triumphant with some excellent ~~content~~ for you next Sunday. Let’s get into it.

• 🥘 The Spinoff has a new email newsletter called The Boil Up, written by Charlotte Muru-Lanning. The first issue is a great read, and it has taken a place alongside Jean Teng’s Metro Eats in the pantheon of very good local newsletters, and justification for shifting the focus of this newsletter away from food somewhat

• 👕 I grabbed a drink with Blair from Inward Goods this week, and this is a reminder that his clothes are excellent, very wearable, and certainly worth putting on your wishlist. For what it’s worth, Blair also gifted me a t-shirt, and it’s already the best-fitting tee I own

• 👟 Apologies to be the bearer of bad news, but New Balance 550s have now been played out. If you want cool New Balances, buy some of these instead

• 🗑 Very good friend of clipboard Mitchell Tan from Rubbish Bin will be at a market day at East St. Hall next Sunday, and if you didn’t have plans that day, now you do. See you there

• 🧗‍♂️ I’m really interested in the new range of Gramicci at Good As Gold in Wellington, particularly the trousers. Roomy, sturdy and in great colours - what more could you want? Would love to try on these ones - go go gadget

• 👀 The team at Checks are cooking up some custom-dyed Vans 

• 🎞 I rewatched Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood this week because it’s on Netflix at the moment - good movie, I reckon

• 🕺If I ever get invited to the Met Gala, best believe I will also pull up in a Thom Browne skirt/kilt/dress and a Cartier watch, just like Oscar Isaac. Also, while we’re on the topic - stop trying to police the Met Gala theme! Who cares? They’re wearing beautiful, ridiculous clothing, and that’s enough.

• 🤳 There are almost zero good menswear content creators out there, so when I found Matthew Spade (@mat_buckets) on TikTok and Instagram, I was chuffed. Good fits, nice pictures, what’s not to like? PS: if you want a roundup of menswear IG/TikTok accounts, hmu and I’ll pull it together for a future issue.
