8 good things from this week

all clips, no filler

Welcome to clipboard, a weekly newsletter about Tāmaki Makaurau and culture, by Reilly Hodson. This week: just lots of links, because it has been a full on week for me.

  • Madeleine Holden brilliantly sums up the frustration of the cannabis referendum result, particularly given our Prime Minister’s refusal to pick a side.

  • Leisure’s new EP, Side A, is out and it is very good, vibey stuff for the coming summer.

  • I really enjoyed this insight into the purchasing habits of various editors from around the country.

  • Imugi also have a new EP out, Dragonfruit. It’s excellent stuff, including ‘Greensmoke’ if you’re sad about cannabis probably staying illegal.

  • Sometimes you just need some joy in your life. If you’re feeling that way, can I suggest this YouTube channel of excellent rube goldberg machines for silly tasks.

  • The new issue of Here magazine is typically excellent. A subscription would be a great gift, too!

  • There’s also a brilliant new issue of Henry Oliver’s Essential Services zine. You can read it on your digital device or head down to Britomart and hope they still have some print copies. It’s the last one for a while, because Henry is also prepping for the relaunch of Metro next month. Subscribe to that too.

  • Area 51 must have read last week’s clipboard, because they stock 5 inch Patagonia baggies now. The best shorts money can buy, hands down. Buy them in all the colours.

Thanks for reading clipboard, I’ll hopefully be back to normal programming next week. Side note: if anyone has recommendations for things to do in Wellington, send them through, I’ll be there in a few weeks so stay tuned for clipboard: Poneke edition.
